Lea Vidakovic: Space, light and metaphor in an expanded world of puppet animation
In this talk we shift the topic from character cantered animated narratives in order to highlight the endless, open narrative potential of un-peopled interiors, carefully lit environments, marginalised characters, miniature objects and stillness. Through minute depiction of a tangible miniature world and it’s atmosphere, utilising visual metaphors and a range of editing approaches, these works feature open narrative structures. They employ space as a narrative device and a stage where narrative strands merge and develop simultaneously. They explore alternative approaches in visual storytelling in animation, where both visuals and sound are used as tools to engage the offscreen space, expanding the story beyond the screen space, beyond what is visible.
